Mt. Hagen in the Central Highlands of Papua New Guinea
The following portraits were taken during a three-month bike journey into the Central Highlands of this bizarre Pacific Island Nation. Mt Hagen is the center of civilization in the Central Highlands and the beginning of this difficult bike journey. Other than the people, and their unique tribal culture, there was little else to photograph. No stores, no restaurants, no hotels, no medicine, no electricity, no running water, no toilets, just dense jungle-covered mountains full of bugs and mosquitos with next to nothing to eat.
All images were photographed in 1989
