Description:
Group of people 'thrilled ' to see a cyclist. The higher altitudes did offer better seclusion at nights though, as the valleys were more heavily populated, and harder to find a safe 'hideout' for the night. One night I had settled into a grove of trees nearly surrounded by thick bushes and was thinking about sleep when a dog appeared from behind a bush. Turning my back, hoping it would wander away, it stood its ground watching me on the edge of my hideaway. I needed to build trust, and tired to urge the dog inside the campsite. Trying to silence a barking dog in the darkness, nor chasing a barking dog away, was the last thing I needed. Cautiously it got closer. Lowering myself to a knee, I munched loudly on one of my last carrots. Hunger got the best of him and he moved closer to face me in the near darkness. Offering the carrot, he refused and stepped back slightly. Taking another bite, I offered the carrot once more. Sniffing the air, he stood his ground, showing no interest. The only other food I had was a couple chunks of roasted yam root. Holding it out, he approached to within almost touching distance. Laying the root on the ground, I went back to the carrot careful not to look at the him. Snatching it up, he took several steps backwards and started gnawing on it like it was a bone.
