Description:
The "Head of the Dragon" is actually the site of the ancient fortress at Qinhuangdao, in the Shanhaiguan District. Constructed to protect China from their northern enemies, this small but important, section of the Great Wall had been recently restored for tourism. This site's location was supported by the small agricultural community at the foot of the mountain range and was probably selected because of the ancestors of this community.
This fortress at Quinhuangdao provided protection against the enemy on foot from the north, but did little to protect the Chinese from attack by sea. Regardless, it is a very important historical site in Chinese history.
A side note: An importatn historical Chinese site with very little to eat for someone about to embark on a long, hard journey.
